Fibre to the X (FTTX)
FTTX is a generic term for any broadband network architecture using optical fibre to provide all or part of the local loop used for last mile telecommunications and can cover Fibre to the Cabinet/Kerb (FTTC), Fibre to the Home/Premise (FTTH/P) and Fibre to the Desk (FTTD).
FTTX increases the capacity and speed of broadband availability and is an enabler for Triple Play Services. Since FTTX networks vary significantly in scale and architecture there are a variety of solutions available in the market. FTTX will become increasingly prevalent as the costs to deploy the network continue to fall through innovation.
